Isle of Mull

The Isle of Mull is well known for its spectacular landscapes and iconic wildlife; including basking sharks, puffins and golden eagles that soar through the sky. Whether you decide to drive through the colourful town of Tobermory, visit the distillery or drive to the golden beaches on the edge of the isle, including Calgary Beach, for a peaceful wander, there are plenty of EV car charging points to keep your adventure alive. Or if you’re a little more adventurous and a keen hiker, drive south to Mull’s only Munro, Ben More where you can look forward to incredible vistas stretching over the Sound of Mull, Staffa and beyond to  Ulva. Before heading back to our boutique hotel, check your charge and if you need another boost, stop by the Craignure Car Park or the Mull and Iona Community Trust, where you can park up and start charging.

Isle of Lismore

Oban is a destination blessed with adventure around every corner, and whilst exploring the west coast, we’d recommend a car journey across to Lismore. Lismore is a 10 mile-long Hebridean Island bursting with history, tradition and historical monuments. Take your car on a lush road trip through miles of beautiful landscapes and hills to discover local hotspots. Lismore welcomes guests with its tranquility and endless vistas, so why don’t you give your car a rest and explore the island on foot or by bike. With various walking trails to embark on which boast incredible views and scenery, visitors are truly spoiled for choice on Lismore. Make sure you visit the Lismore Lighthouse and the Gaelic Heritage Centre on your travels to find out more about the Hebridean culture as you discover the local area.

Loch Awe

Another beautiful destination within an hour’s drive from Oban is Loch Awe. You may have driven past this Loch on your way to us but doubling back on your staycation is worth the trip. If you enjoy a long hike, fresh air and beautiful landscapes, Loch Awe is the place to explore. With miles of land to cover, Loch Awe is the longest freshwater loch in Scotland, stretching 41km end to end. As you wander along the shores of the loch, depending on the time of year, you may see local fishermen catching their trout and salmon, plus several castle ruins awaiting to be explored, including everyone’s favourite Kilchurn Castle. If you forgot to charge your car prior to your Loch Awe adventure, there are several EV charging points in and around the area you can hook up to before heading back to our boutique hotel. These include EV charging stations in Dalmally and Inveraray. Just pop your location into Google and search for the closest EV point.

Inveraray

Just under an hour’s drive from No. 26 By The Sea is another popular destination, Inveraray. Overlooking the beautiful still water of Loch Fyne, lies a traditional Argyll county which provides a great day for exploring. A must-see attraction when visiting Inveraray is Inveraray Castle, an iconic Scottish castle. Home to the Duke of Argyll, Chief of the Campbell Clan, Inveraray Castle is a stunning landmark rich in culture and history. Explore the exquisite interior decor before wandering through the immaculate gardens which surround the castle. Since you’re in town, why not visit the Inveraray Jail and take a step back in time to a wicked 19th Century prison. Experience the lives of men, women and children who were tried and locked up in Inveraray Jail. Discover the cells, the grounds, the jails architecture and come face-to-face with costumed characters who will re-enact life in Inveraray Jail. Or if you’d rather stretch your legs by the loch, there are plenty of trails in and around Loch Fyne which make for an atmospheric hike or wander. The choice is yours. Once you’ve explored the town of Inveraray, check your car battery before heading back to our Oban hotel. Park up at the Avenue Car Park, Loch Fyne Oyster Restaurant and several other spots to charge up.

We’ve given you some inspiration further afield but, don’t forget about all the local places to visit in Oban, as well as the dog friendly places to visit in Oban which can fill your day. Leave your car charging at our Oban hotel car park and head to Ganavan Sands. It’s only a 30 minute walk from our hotel and you’ll be rewarded with gorgeous scenery and golden sands which surround our coastal town. This sandy beach affords views across the water straight to Mull, Lismore and Morven.

Did you know that you don’t need to go to Rome to see a coliseum? We have our very own right here in Oban called McCaig’s Tower. If you’re stopping by, before going further afield, it’s only a 5 minute drive from our hotel however, if you’re staying local we’d recommend giving the car a rest for the day. The climb from the town centre to McCaig’s Tower is short and sweet, boasting glorious views across the harbour towards the Atlantic Islands. Don’t forget to wander through the gardens which are beautifully kept and admire the tranquil setting that surrounds you.

Another local favourite is Dunstaffnage Castle. Hop in the car for 10 minutes and visit the mighty castle where King Robert the Bruce was once captured by his enemies. Dunstaffnage Castle is one of Scotland’s oldest stone castles where the MacDougalls rested. It’s the perfect place to soak up Scotland’s rich history and explore the castle’s woodlands which are now inhabited by various wildlife species.
